New Opportunities for Children’s Authors

Hi folks,

(Don’t forget to take advantage of my free book offer on Smashwords)

I have been very busy with updating my children’s books. Amazon have released a new kids book creation tool which not only makes it easier to make kids books specifically for Kindle (and other ePub devices). but improves the look of them as well. The online program is called Kindle Kids Book Creator and is free to download and use for anyone wishing to make high quality eBooks for children. Gone are the hassles of having to format your book using Word. In fact, you don’t even need Word anymore. The program allows you to upload your PDF file and you can add all your text in live. Not only that, you can use PowerPoint (my preferred tool), save your document as a PDF, upload it to KKBC and save and preview your book. What this new program does is format your book in either landscape or portrait and fill the entire screen with your page. This used to be very difficult doing it before, so this is a welcome tool from Amazon, who seem to be paying attention finally to some of the criticisms of functionality. I’ve now redone five of my books and I have to say they look so much better. You can get the Kindle Kids Book Creator here.

Not only will your kids books appear as very book like ebooks online on the site, but you can link your audio narrative, complete with sound effects and music if you wish (See this example), to your book, so kids can read along and listen at the same time. I don’t know of any other site that allows you to do this. At this stage the program works only with PCs and Macs, but the site owner assures me they are looking to extend this to Tablets and other devices later in the year so it will eventually work across all platforms on all devices. This is exciting stuff for all authors and well worth the small investment of time to get it right. Authors can upload their books for free, but apart from one free book per month, users need to sign up for a paid account to access all the books and Authors get paid for full reads.
